Assam Pedas (Spicy Tamarind Fish)

If you are lazy and just want to have simple+sour+spicy

that will stir up your appetite...try this

Taste almost like assam laksa but less work

Wash and clean the Mackerel Fish (I prefer Terubuk Fish). Blend all the spices together; Dried Chilli, Lemongrass, Shallots, Turmeric, Garlic & Belachan

Mix tamarind pulp with water and strained the juice. Add it the tamarind juice and spice paste then bring to a boil.

Throw in the pineapple, onions, 1 stalk of Lemongrass bruised & Galangal (lengkuas) let it cooked for 10 minutes, then add it the Mackeral fish & boil till cooked, approximately 3-5 minutes.

Add in the salt & sugar, to taste.

Garnish with ginger flower and mint leave...Done !

Serve with rice,...or you can add it rice noodle and treat it like assam laksa...
with "Har Ko".....Of course.

Serving for 4paxs

Hi Nyonya Chef, love your food pics here.
I got a whiff of the wonderful aromatic spices and took a bus here.
You sure one heck of a fantastic cook, and Nyonya dishes too. OUTSTANDING!
Men like you don't grow on trees, ha ha.

Long ago, wayyyyyy back in the late '70s, a young gorgeous SYT (sweet young thing) with cooking not in her resume secretly got her Malay and Nyona friends to teach her to cook.
Before that she was a genius at opening tins and cooking instant noodles.

Actually, ahemmm, she was preparing a trap....to nail me down as she had learned I love Nyonya food.
Upon graduation she invited me home to eat...fish head curry, sambal chincharu, secret recipie sambal belachan and pineapple fish assam.

3 diners, I was hooked, line and sinker. Habis cherita, game over.
Should have decline her invitation as my hobby was chasing sarongs, ha ha.
You have a nice day and happy cooking. Best regards, Lee.
ps, Add her delicious Nyonya cooking and she in sarong kebaya (and she not a Nyonya girl too)...very deadly combination, ha ha.
